Last Friday, the European Commission offered Ukraine a new macro-financial assistance program worth EUR 1 billion, as confirmed by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini during her joint press briefing with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv Monday.

She noted that joint work would continue to make sure that the program was implemented "quickly and smoothly".

Also, speaking about the conditions for the start of the new program of macro-financial assistance, she said that they were being discussed.

"For sure, elements that have been relevant in previous financial assistance packages might be relevant also for the future. But what I can say is that we are aiming at disbursements of the first tranche that could happen already before the end of this year," said Mogherini.

At the same time, she noted that the EC pays high attention to the progress Ukraine is seeing in its anti-corruption efforts.

"And I would imagine that it would continue to be a key element in our common work," the EU top diplomat said.
