Slovakian President Andrej Kiska promised during his Kyiv visit this Tuesday that his country would fulfill its April obligations provide natural gas to Ukraine through reverse pipelines.

Kiska held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, agreeing on uniting efforts to provide energy security for the two countries, Ukraine Today reports.

Slovakia is seen as one of Ukraine’s key partners, along with Poland and Hungary, in its attempts to break away from energy dependence from Russia’s energy monopoly Gazprom in the wake of the rise of the gas price which followed the Kremlin's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea.

Kyiv now buys 50 percent of its imported gas from the three mentioned EU member states while the rest is still supplied by Russia, according to UkrTransGaz.
