Ambassador Janukonis: Lithuanian gas shipments to Ukraine hampered by Gazprom
Lithuania is ready to supply gas to Ukraine through its newly built LNG terminal, but the shipments are being hampered by Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Marius Janukonis said on Ukraine's Channel 5.
"Ukraine has already made a very important step for energy security – this includes both reverse supplies and increased energy efficiency. We are also ready to assist in this process, namely, with gas transit from Lithuania via the LNG terminal, which we have just built," Janukonis said in an interview with Channel 5.
He noted there were certain political issues that get in the way of this process.
"Unfortunately, Russia's Gazprom, which owns pipelines, exerts political pressure on energy and economic projects," Janukonis added.
