Ukraine may get another IMF tranche this fall – central bank official

Among the obligations to fulfill for the next program review is the revision of gas tariffs and budget issues.

In case the positive completion of the forthcoming visit of the International Monetary Fund's mission, which will operate in Kyiv September 6-19, Ukraine will be able to receive the next tranche of the Fund's loan as early as this fall, according to Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Oleh Churii.

"If the mission is positive, if Ukraine is able to agree with the International Monetary Fund, we could get a positive board decision [the IMF executive board] as early as this fall, and we could also receive the next tranche this fall, I believe," Churii told the Novoye Vremya Radio.

He recalled that among Ukraine's obligations to be fulfilled for the next cooperation program review is revising of gas tariffs in line with the market level and addressing some state budget issues for the current and next year.

"If the mission is successful, then the board date will be scheduled. If the date is set, it will mean that there is a very high probability of a positive decision," Churii added.

The current IMF program for Ukraine worth $17.5 billion, of which Ukraine received $8.7 billion, terminates in the spring of 2019. In 2018, the National Bank and the Ministry of Finance expects to receive $1.9 billion under the said program.

On July 12, the Verkhovna Rada adopted an amendment to the law on the judiciary, which provides for consideration by the High Anti-Corruption Court of all cases within its jurisdiction, including all new appeals on the relevant decisions, already rendered by first instance courts. It was the IMF which insisted on the amendment.

In addition to adopting anti-corruption legislation, in order to continue cooperation with the Fund, the Government needs to revise gas prices and make appropriate adjustments to balance the current year's budget.

According to the statement by the permanent representative of the IMF in Ukraine, Goesta Ljungman, the Fund's mission will visit Kyiv on September 6-19.
