The government of Ukraine has reached an agreement in principle at talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a gradual increase in prices of natural gas for households to the level of import parity by April 2020.

"There is an agreement on a gradual increase in the price to bring the Ukrainian market to the so-called total import parity by April 2020," CEO of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev said at a forum of the European Business Association, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

The rate of the increase is now being discussed, he added.

As UNIAN reported, to continue cooperation with the IMF, Ukraine was to revise the national budget to bring its deficit benchmarks in line with the Extended Fund Facility program and ensure the transition to a market mechanism for the formation of gas prices for the population.

The price of gas for households is UAH 4,942 (US$176.5) per 1,000 cubic meters. If VAT and transportation costs are included, it is UAH 6,958 (US$248.5) per 1,000 cubic meters.
