Int'l donor projects worth almost US$5 bln implemented in Ukraine in H1

In 2018, Ukraine expects to raise $715.4 million in international technical assistance.

International partners implemented donor projects worth US$4.9 billion in Ukraine in the first half of 2018, the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry's press service said.

The report is based on monitoring provided by the beneficiaries, the ministry said on its website, adding it had analyzed the implementation of international technical assistance projects for the first six months of 2018.

"In the first half of 2018, there were 477 projects implemented in Ukraine as part of international technical assistance to the tune of $4.9 billion. Of the sum, $1.3 billion is funded from the Chornobyl Shelter Fund and the Nuclear Safety Account," the report said.

The total amount of international technical assistance in January-June 2018 (excluding the Chornobyl Fund) increased by 12.8% compared to the first half of 2017, to $3.5 billion.

The largest donors providing international technical assistance to Ukraine were the United States with $1.7 billion (102 projects), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with $719.8 million (38 projects), the European Union with $382.8 million (176 projects), Germany with $342.3 million (31 projects), and Canada with $142.2 million (16 projects).

In the first half of the year, $1.1 billion (31%) was spent on national security and defense, $842.2 million (23%) on nuclear safety (the Chornobyl Fund not included), $431 million (12%) on administration and civil society, $285.9 million (8%) on regional development, $192.6 million (5%) on rebuilding Donbas and supporting internally displaced persons, $149.4 million (4%) on energy issues and energy efficiency, $106.3 million (4%) on education and science, and $103.8 million (3%) on health care.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine in 2017 raised $928.3 million in international technical assistance, which was $321 million down on 2016.

Technical assistance provided by international partners in Ukraine in 2016 increased by $270.5 million, to $1.245 billion.

In 2018, Ukraine expects to raise $715.4 million in international technical assistance.
