Over US$70 mln to be spent on organization of presidential elections in Ukraine – CEC

About UAH 1.5 billion (US$53.5 million) will be spent for the first round of elections, and UAH 848 million (US$30.2 million) for the second round of elections.

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Yevhen Radchenko has said over UAH 2 billion (US$71.3 million) will be spent on the organization of the presidential elections in Ukraine.

"So far, the total amount is UAH 2.354 billion (US$80 million), of which about UAH 1.5 billion (US$53.5 million) will be spent for the first round of elections, and UAH 848 million (US$30.2 million) for the second round of elections," he told a press conference in Kyiv, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

According to CEC Secretary Natalia Berdatska, the commission expects that, when considering the draft state budget for 2019 in the second reading, the lawmakers will take into account comments on the redistribution of funds that were not used for local elections.

"We plan to use them for cyber security. We hope we will have time to hold tenders and purchase technical equipment to ensure cyber security," she said.

UNIAN memo. The presidential elections in Ukraine will be held on March 31, 2019. The start of the election campaign is scheduled for December 31, 2018. The registration of potential candidates to the CEC and the election campaign begins from this day, which ends at midnight on the last Friday before the vote. The final list of candidates for the presidency will be announced until February 9, 2019.
