Number of Ukrainian workers in Germany grows by 10% over year

Some 138,000 Ukrainian citizens live in Germany today.

Germany's Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) says the number of Ukrainian workers in the country over this year increased by 10%.

"Compared with March 2017, there is an increase by 4,000 people, that is, by 10%," the ministry told the Ukrainian-language service of Germany's Deutsche Welle (DW). As of March 2018, about 43,000 Ukrainian citizens had official worked and paid compulsory social contributions in Germany.

As reported, in March 2013, this figure was only 29,000 people.

Some 138,000 Ukrainian citizens live in Germany now. According to the German statistical agency, a total of 88,000 women and 50,000 men, Ukrainian nationals, lived in the Federal Republic of Germany as of the end of 2017. Almost 13,500 Ukrainians in Germany are minors, while 23,500 are over 65 years old.

The average age of Ukrainians is 42-43 years, more than half of them are married, but only every third of them – with German citizens. The average length of stay in Germany is 11.5 years. Some 78,500 of Ukrainian citizens obtained residence permits in Germany.

As reported, 11,800 Ukrainians had arrived in Germany to reside as of 2017. Almost 10,000 Ukrainians left or died there.

As was earlier reported, Polish employers are afraid of the departure of Ukrainians to Germany. Therefore, in order to keep the Ukrainian workers, they began to improve the working conditions for Ukrainians, according to Arkadiusz Paczka, deputy head of the Employers of Poland Organization. Moreover, they offer various bonuses in addition to salaries.
