The projects will require almost EUR 13 billion to build or repair 4,800 kilometers of roads and railways, as well as a number of ports, airports, logistics centers and border checkpoints, the Ukrainian-language service of Germany's Deutsche Welle (DW) reports, referring to the European Commission's press service.

Some projects are planned to be implemented by 2020, while others before 2030. "Enhanced transport connectivity both within the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region, and between the EaP region and the EU has the potential to bolster economic growth and create job opportunities," European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc said.

In Ukraine, repaired will be a section of the Kyiv-Odesa highway in Cherkasy region, which will require EUR 210 million. The northern bypass road near the city of Lviv will be built, the project is estimated at EUR 120 million and will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. In addition, EUR 300 million will be required for the reconstruction of the second runway and a new cargo terminal at Boryspil Airport outside Kyiv.

A decision was taken at the Eastern Partnership Summit in 2017 that the six countries participating in the program should join the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). It is a European Commission policy directed towards the implementation and development of a Europe-wide network of roads, railway lines, inland waterways, maritime shipping routes, ports, airports and rail-road terminals. This was one of the 20 tasks that are planned to be carried out within the Eastern Partnership before 2020.
