Ukraine-Belgium trade grows by 25% in nine months, to almost US$993 mln

Both countries' businesses are interested in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.

Trade between Ukraine and Belgium grew by 25% in the nine months of 2018, to US$992.7 million.

Ukrainian exports to Belgium in the said period increased by 37.4%, to US$465.9 million, the press service of Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry said.

The press service also reported about a meeting of the Ukrainian-Belgian Joint Commission on Economic and Financial Cooperation in Brussels (Belgium). During the meeting, Ukrainian State Secretary of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry Oleksiy Perevezentsev and Director General for bilateral affairs at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anick Van Calster discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, as well as cooperation in the field of IT and innovation.

They also presented investment opportunities in different areas and fields.

"The Ukrainian government continues reforms to improve the investment climate: it develops opportunities for public-private partnerships, strengthens the protection of rights and support for investors, and improves the management of public investments," the press service quoted Perevezentsev as saying.

Participants in the meeting note that Ukraine and Belgium have significant potential for bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation, and businesses of both countries are interested in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.
