Prosecutor General: State budget receives nearly $55 mln from special confiscation

The Court of Appeal of Cherkasy region ruled to transfer almost UAH 1.5 billion (US$55 mln) to the state budget of Ukraine in the framework of the special confiscation, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko reported via Facebook.

The prosecutor general noted that the money will be allocated for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities: "The army will receive new missiles, ATGMs, armored vehicles, and fire control systems. Meanwhile, border guards will complete an integrated system of state border maintenance."

At the same time, the top prosecutor did not specify the case where special confiscation had been applied.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor general, Larysa Sargan, in a comment to UNIAN stated that “the details of the special confiscation will be made public later, when we receive information from the investigator so we can voice it."

As UNIAN reported earlier, in 2017, in 2017, UAH 14 billion of funds confiscated from ex-president Viktor Yanukovych was used up of UAH 22 billion availale for that period.

On April 28, 2017, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov the Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced the entry into force of a court ruling on transferring to the state budget of $1.5 billion arrested in the accounts of Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage.

The Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine identified 42 non-resident companies affiliated with the ex-President, and in June 2014 blocked $1.5 billion in the accounts of 19 such companies.
