Russian equipment will be replaced with modern technology produced by Ukraine's Turboatom.
State-run operator of Ukrainian-based nuclear power plants, Energoatom, and Kharkiv-based JSC Turboatom, one of the world's top ten turbine construction companies, have signed a contract aimed to have Ukrainian NPPs switch to using Ukrainian-made equipment for high-speed turbines as part of an import substitution program.
"National Nuclear Energy Generating Company 'Energoatom' and JSC Turboatom, as part of the import substitution program, have concluded an agreement on the purchase of a [turbine] condenser for Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant's unit No. 3," Energoatom's press service said in a statement on February 18.

This is how equipment for high-speed turbines developed by Russian-based Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (LMZ) is replaced with modern equipment produced by Ukraine's Turboatom, the world leader in the production of low-speed turbines, the report said.
The agreement is significant for both companies as it concerns import substitution of Russian components installed at units of Ukrainian NPPs.
"Now there are five 1 GWe reactor turbines in Ukraine. And Turboatom assumes all obligations for their modernization and maintenance," the press service quoted Turboatom CEO Viktor Subbotin as saying.
